I can’t tell you how EXCITED I am that Sophie’s quilt is finished! I even washed it to get it all soft and crinkly. I am so happy with the way it came out so I decided to whip up a little pillow to go with it! So here it is, my first QUILTED and BOUND quilt!!!! And let me tell you, I’m hooked. I’ll never go back to hand tying a quilt again.
It was a perfect day to finish this quilt too because I FINALLY got to meet the little sweetie who will be receiving this gift. She is a little doll, PERFECT little features, sweet little personality. She and her gorgeous sister (who I’m blessed to be godmother to) made my day. I just love those girls to pieces. Unfortunately I don’t see them enough due to hectic schedules and a winter filled with germs. I’m looking forward to this New England weather improving so we can go for walks, and go to the park!
So what’s next on the sewing agenda? I think maybe I need to finish a couple WIPs. I have a turning twenty quilt I started months ago for my boys and also an improv beach blanket that I’m also making for them. Then there’s Amy Butler’s Birdie Sling and a patchwork belt I’d like to get done before the warm weather graces us. Oh and of course I have all the fabric I need to do my kitchen curtains…
I think I’m going to be busy!
Anyhoo. The temp’s supposed to get up to 50 F tomorrow, so I’m looking forward to picking up Jack’s new bike that’s waiting for us, and getting outside for some fresh air. Is it May yet?!

Gorgeous quilt for a lucky girl!
Beautiful quilt! I, too, made a quilt for a Sophie–my niece. Question: did you use a walking foot for your straight-line quilting? Just curious as I have been frustrated with my straight-line quilting (my machine will not take a walking foot). I get some shifting and I’m wondering if there is a better technique to keep things lined up.
Thank you both! Michelle, I did not use a walking foot. I got some shifting too…there are a couple places that got a little bunchy and YES totally frustrating. I had to actually pull some stitching out twice to attempt fixing it…but alas, there are STILL a couple places that are bunchy…and I needed to let go of my perfectionism and let it be part of its character, lol. After washing and drying the quilt, it did look less noticeable though! In hindsight I should have used more pins to baste. Maybe there would have been less shifting?? I did start in the center of the quilt and worked out….but I quilted block by block…so it wasn’t simple. Hope that helps! Thanks for your comments
It’s so beautiful. You must be so pleased. I’ll be back to check things out. I love your photos.
thank you Katie
So pretty! Did you take a class or teach yourself?
thank you Molly
I taught myself…I started making quilts about 10-12 years ago when I was in college. I would make a quilt every summer break for my bed for the new school year. Each year I would try something new…and now I’m trying all sorts of new things and have sewn lots of things besides quilts….and always learning!
